And then there is Taggart Craig. This little boy is funny, funny, funny! He turned 16-months just last week, and I'm shocked at how non-baby he is seeming lately. (sniff-sniff) His personality is a precious thing to watch develop.
He had his 15-month well-baby checkup on February 27. At this point, he hadn't yet mumbled more than a string of "da-da-da" together. And, as much as Tyler would have probably liked to think that Tagg was referring to him, I really don't think he was really saying "Dada" so much as he was just practicing sounds. So, I talked to the doctor about his lack of vocabulary, to which she responded by saying he wasn't really "delayed" at this point, but was definitely on the slower end of the speaking spectrum and that if he wasn't saying at least three to four words at this next appointment, at 18-months, we would need to reassess. What?? I think I panicked a little.
But then, on Sunday, March _____, while my mom was staying with me to help out while Tyler was traveling for work, Taggart spoke. His first word: SOCKS! It was the cutest thing!! And completely surprising that that would be his official first word. It still cracks me up to think about it. He says it all drawn out and breathy with an exaggerated "S" at the end. And that was just the beginning. He now also says: outside, truck, hi, shoes, Dada and Mama.
He definitely understands a lot more than he can say. He can follow two-step directions. For example, "Go get your shoes and take them to daddy."
He loves to be outside. And, actually, 'loves' is a fierce understatement.
